I just wanna say how much I love this site way more than the other forum spaces I’ve been on over the years, everything’s organized so well, I know where everything is on the first go, the rules are actually reasonable… It’s great! I love it here!
Anyway, if you guys have any hot or lukewarm takes, I wanna hear it! Let’s blow off some steam in a healthy way! X)
Now, here’s my lukewarm take:
Necroposting is a silly rule, especially in gamedev forums (coughcoughrpgmakercoughcough). Half the time when a question is asked on a post from years ago it doesn’t ever get a proper answer no matter how much you dig and no matter how much it’s asked, and when it does, it’s never properly explained. How am I supposed to know the answer to the problem when A. It’s not explained well, or B. Nobody will answer, not even in present day?
Bonus points to whenever mods close a post when the problem isn’t even solved, just because nobody’s posting in the thread. People should be able to answer a problem on the same post it’s asked on, even if it’s from years ago
i think i am pretty happy with the rules as they are - really the main philosophy is that id like as few threads as possible to launch dead-on-arrival, and in my opinion thats more the responsibility of the main topic post. from a moderator perspective its pretty weird to enforce rules for the sake of the ‘brand of the forum’ - i just want the threads to feel worth writing and participating in
enforcing too much etiquette on replies is a good way to discourage replying at all. so i really dont mind things like reviving dead threads or posting 3 times in a row, or if its awkward to read i can just merge and move on with things.
