Introductions!

:molly: :gms_explosion:
i feel like that’s a pretty classic thing to do, so you always have a default for deleted/invalid textures. im remembering some game or other that would use a little bird tilting its head with a (?) for that purpose. and ofc the classic pink/black cheques

o7 I Have Zero Context For Any Anime And Im Sorry About It o7 welcome aboard

Hi all!

I’m roller, or drakonic, I’m a hobbyist gamedev.
I mainly label myself as an artist, I work in very many mediums, both traditional and digital :) I am currently studying multimedia arts at an academy of arts, which has made me skew a little towards fine art
I like computers, and I’m a bit of a linux/free software nerd. I’m not a huge fan of social media, so I’m trying to participate in forums and stuff to train my attention span and make meaningful connections.

Currently I only really have one game in my portfolio I’d call finished, Cyber Goose, a game jam game I made with a friend.

Some projects I am working on:

  • HeartBit - my main focus right now, a visual novel.
  • Voicindra - RPGMaker game about an amnesiac who fell from the sky. just your regular RPG, featuring characters who are dragons
  • OpenLumi - lowest priority project right now, a clone of Lumines, a PSP falling block game, being made in Godot

You can read more about my projects here. that’s my website. It’s kind of my main hub online. I also hang out a lot on mastodon/fedi.

Hope to have a good time here!! ^_^

Hey there, everyone! My name’s Ruby Soleil-Raine! I’m a trans lesbian, professional VFX artist, aspiring mediocre punk guitarist, and, like a lot of folks here, current hobbyist game dev. Although I spend more time on game dev than anything else at this point. You may know me for my TTRPG, Ascendancy, or probably not, but I think it was neat.

Came here for the Cohost bump, much like everyone else it seems. But this is exactly the sort of community I’ve been looking for, and I’m excited to be here.

Currently, I’m working on Engagement Window, a mecha shmup inspired by Zeta Gundam, early 2000’s doujin shmups, and Rhythm Doctor. I promise that combination makes sense in context.

Thanks for havin’ me~!!

ok i don’t know where else to put this but i keep forgetting about the signature feature and earnestly read each of your posts as if you typed the girls band cry thing out as a closing statement every time. thought i would let you know the psychic damage is effective lol

i mean honestly that is something i would do. Any statement not already appended with “anyway watch girls band cry” should be implied to come with the statement “anyway watch girls band cry”

Hey folks! I’m glyph, a hobbyist gamedev and writer of the school of “never actually finishes anything”. Still, I am in the wonderful position of existing in a lot of communities with professional and productive hobbyist creatives right now, and it is really helping me with the drive to actually see something through to the end for once.

I am one of the cohost refugees as well. I look forward to more tightly-knit online communities in my future and have consequently banned all shout-into-the-void socmed from my life. (I am not sure how to square this with my desire to get actual eyes on my work, but that is both besides the point for this thread, and admittedly irrelevant until I have work worth getting eyes on).

Looking forward to seeing more of you all \o

I never did like social media. I post on gamedev Mastodon because it’s topic-focused, but it’s not much for actual discussion. I grew up with chat rooms and forums, and those are still what I prefer.

I had hoped that the Itch forums would be a decent development community to engage with, but it’s a barely-moderated desert. Same with the Itch Discord, which is noisier, but not better.

welcome! ! Heh an indeterminate stint with the never-ever-finish club is pretty much a rite of passage. some of my favorite indie games of all time have never came out lol

Yeah, itch boards i think are pretty much a nonstarter. I do have a lot of respect for leafo, who had been running games-forums since the mid 2000s before itch was even a glimmer, but the ones on the site just feel like they exist because it was possible and nobody was willing to say it wasn’t necessary. It has the issue where itch is a good platform for devs, of course, but there are now just a lot of normal players (and kids) on there too. And most devs I know really don’t like that kind of crossover unless its actually integral to running marketing. Gamejolt kinda failed to take off in terms of community for those same reasons.

Hi! I’m Peter V, a programmer and interdisciplinary artist who makes games full-time for a big company and also part-time for myself. I’ve cut posting out of my life almost entirely, so you can currently find me on the internet nowhere at all. Still, i would like to share the things i’m working on, and this place looks like a pleasant one to do so.

I’ve worked in Unity some, in Godot a bunch, and am currently in the early stages of making a game for the Playdate.

Nice to meet everyone!

Glad to have ya!

hello. my name’s leah but you can generally call me whatever you want. im a former fanfic writer and generally too online 20 year old who joined because I like forums and ive followed the work of our benevolent admin for a while. i spend a lot of time in creative niche spaces so hopefully i can get along nice in here. might just make a couple posts and might become a regular, who knows. alright thats it bye

Hi there! I’m Hawky, mid-20s game dev and writer from the UK. Started making games in my teens when I grew obsessed with indie games and the scene at the time; first with GameMaker, moved to Unity when I started doing computer games programming at university, and currently learning Godot. I love playing hard games, action games, roguelikes etc. but personally make narrative focused things and visual novels like Lookouts, which I made with a friend.

I was always really enamoured with TIGsource et al. and reading devlogs, so, excited at the prospect of being on a forum like this and getting to see what people do (and hopefully break out of my lurking comfort zone to contribute myself). Nice to meet everyone!

oh, gosh, hi  - am i still known in places? i feel like for the most part the only reason this site is ongoing is because every other social media is just shrapnel-ling itself constantly…

Oh wow, nice to meet you. I feel like i kept seeing this project around as a sort of poster-child of one dialogue-system or another (was it yarnspinner?) edit: EGG ON MY FACE

To be honest myself I was just a lurker there too, as a teen. It feels like the scene is kind of at an inflection point where more devs have never seen or interacted with tigs than have, and im not 100% sure how to feel about that yet. because i do view it as so ‘culturally’ integral to the craft! part of launching this was to sort of get over that hill of ‘hmm maybe its Just Over’ when going back to visit there. im hopeful people do want to do that kind of writing still, and just maybe haven’t felt comfortable at a place with the history/culture that would be so hard to grasp coming in today

edit: also today apparently marks 1k views on this thread. 0_0;;b so if anyone needs to tidy up and get photo-ready nows the time

Nice to meet you too!
Oh huh, I think that might be another project?? I’m not sure Lookouts got much notice in the wider sphere and didn’t use yarnspinner or anything, it was a hacky visual novel framework I wrote in Unity and Excel sheets lol. I’d be curious what that other project was or if I’m wrong and just never saw it haha.

Agreed, I think lots of people do but its daunting to do it on a big forum with history where you’re posting your devlog alongside, like, Lucas Pope lol. I think a lot of people turned devlogs either into marketing on twitter or just sequestered it to their own blogs or discord servers. Something like this forum tho I think will attract people wanting that discussion with others, without that pre-existing baggage of a forum’s history/culture, like you said.

hello hello! im loni cb, or just loni, im an artist from chile, i used to do much more gamedev before, not much nowadays, however, this forum is very inspirational! and ive been having a couple things rattling in my noggin, im excited to put them into paper! life is really busy tho, so i might not be the most active

hi hi welcome! cool to see someone involved from staffcirc, that kinda takes me back hahaha, i havent listened much to the chiptune world in a while

hi everyone! i’m megan (they/them), a current game design student (though i’m graduating in may) with an interest in gameplay + systems design. i also do illustration, creative writing, and music stuff on the side (as well as a little bit of web dev), though those are all less game-related, lol. currently i’m working on my senior thesis game, which is a card battler/turn-based rpg.

i currently work in unity but am trying to make the shift over to godot for personal work! you can find me on itch.io, bluesky, or my portfolio site.

nice to meet everyone + excited to be here!!

Hi all! I’m June (or Ernestine), I’m a game developer but mostly just a pixel artist and composer.
I’ve been doing freelance for a bit but I hope to return to making my own weird little games at some point in the future. Want to make some more exploration/walking around and looking at cool shit based games like I used to.

I have stuff up on https://june-flower.itch.io/ though nothing very recent.

This seems like a lovely place, I started making art/games around 2017 so I never really knew forums in that way. Looking forward to seeing what everyone makes.

fancy seein’ you here B) welcome!
